Home Alone

1/17/2013

Like most people, we have a pretty consistent routine every morning as we get ready for our work day. DH gets the coffee ready, waters the garden, feeds and waters the dog and puts out the motorcycles when we ride. My jobs are getting the newspaper from the driveway, making porridge, and letting the dog outside just before we leave. Yesterday, I screwed up.

When I came home from work, guess who wandered around the corner to greet me. Yup, the dog. I forgot to let her outside. So for the first time in her whole twelve years of life, she was house bound for a whole day. In case you didn't know, she lives outside in the porch and backyard as all our dogs have. Only when her companion died a few years ago, did we start letting her inside with us when we're home. She likes to hear us talk and of course she likes to beg in the kitchen and make laps around the house drinking from the toilets, and checking out each trash can in hopes of finding the stray kleenex to munch on.

So, when I realized she'd been inside all day, I let her out right away to go pee. Then I went into all the rooms and checked for any problems. I'm pleased to report that we did not find any food scraps, carpets shredded or piles of poop anywhere. She could easily have jumped up on the counter and eaten the hamburger buns we got for sloppy joes at our upcoming yard sale. She loves bananas and could have eaten them too from the counter. But she was a good girl and didn't do anything bad.

I think she probably took a nice long nap.
