Desk for Sale

7/19/2012

So things are moving along with the remodel. We have a bunch of stuff on Craigslist and I have a computer desk disassembled in my truck and hopefully the buyer will take it off my hands today. She is supposed to meet me after she gets off work, she'll come to the office to pick it up.

We're discovering in our research that its not that easy to get rid of stuff and junk these days. There is only one landfill in the Tampa area, but we're not allowed to bring stuff because we pay our city for garbage collection. They in turn allow one "special" pickup a year but won't take mattresses or construction material. Go figure, that's what we have. No one wanted our free queen mattress and box spring when we advertised it. I don't blame them though with the threat of bedbugs. I would never want a used mattress either. So we have a pile of paneling started and we'll have to get a quote from a junk hauler to take it all away.

Anyway, I've cleaned out the office, and have to move the fridge and keg into the dining area, then we can tear down the false ceiling and the paneled walls. DH already removed the paneling from the living room and we were surprised to find a big window size hole in the dining room wall, which used to be an outside wall before our time. The paneling was hiding the hole. Its kind of interesting in that you can sit at the table now and see out into the back yard. You can also see from the front yard into the living room, through the dining room and into the backyard. It makes the house very transparent which I'm not too fond of. We are always wandering around naked on our way to use the pool or hot tub. Leaving the window in the wall would make it possible for people driving or walking by to see more of what goes on inside the house. So we decided we're going to patch it up and maintain our privacy.

Today we make the pilgrimage to the big box store to use our big box coupon to buy the bulk of our supplies for the handyman to get started. We'll hook up the trailer to get lots of drywall, baseboard trim, a couple windows, a new back door and lots of paint. And we've got to make that impossible decision on carpet. Earlier this week we tore up the old carpet in the dining room and revealed our beautiful terrazzo flooring. I actually love the speckled gray, purple, blue, black pattern and if I could make that into carpet it would be perfect. I tried to convince DH that we should just leave it terrazzo for now and we can always get carpet later, but that didn't fly.

Our goal is to finish this project before the Republican Convention arrives in Tampa, not that it has anything to do with anything we're doing, but it would be nice to finish before our summer vacation.
