How bad have you got it?

2/08/2008

I don't know about you, but I've been tolerating football on TV, in bars, in the news and everywhere else for months now and am glad its over (almost - still got the pro bowl). Anyway, this weekend brings us back to the real sporting event of the year - RACING! This is the time of year when a couple hundred thousand (200,000) people flock to a tiny little town called Daytona to watch a bunch of guys drive around in circles. Some people just don't get it - what the heck is so exciting about a bunch of cars driving around. Well, if any of you have ever had the pleasure, or let me say experience - driving a race car around a track really really fast - you would not need to ask what is so exciting about doing it. I grant you it may not be as exciting to watch, but both Scott & I have driven race cars around a track and it is exciting. Scott seems to think its a "fun" exciting, where I think its a "scary" exciting (and not to be repeated in my day). Having experienced the adrenaline, fear, potential to go fast, the wall all make it exciting to watch when others do it. With that being said, I'm glad to see NASCAR is catching on and more people are attending these race events, several I know doing it for the first time this year. Personally, Daytona is one of my least favorite tracks due to the outrageous LA like traffic, high price tickets, and poor viewing of the race unless you're in the tower. I would much prefer to watch these events from Daytona in the comfort of my home on TV. I will miss the driver radio chatter, but not much else. However, I don't want to discourage anyone from attending a race event - its exhilarating to walk down along the track when the cars race by and feeling the power and energy of the moment. So I say - Start Your Engines!
